Explanation
(This amendment provides $5.4 million to support 42 full-time positions along with one-time and recurring operating costs to: 1) increase the number of fire-fighting staff; 2) protect the lives and safety of firefighters with personal protective equipment; 3) enhance enforcement of water quality by field staff; 4) increase aerial forest fire suppression; and 5) implement Virginia's Riparian Buffer Initiative. The amendment reflects recommendations made by the Joint Subcommittee to Study the Impact of Satellite Chip Mills on Virginia's Economy and Environment (HJR 730, 1999 Session).)
