"B. The Virginia State Bar and the Legal Services Corporation of Virginia shall annually, on or about January 1 each year, provide a report to the Chairmen of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees regarding the status of legal services assistance programs in the Commonwealth. The report shall include, but not be limited to, efforts to maintain and improve the accuracy of caseload data, case opening and case closure information, and program activity levels as it relates to clients.
C. Any legal services program receiving funds provided for in this item shall provide to the Legal Services Corporation of Virginia, and to any citizen, upon request, written information regarding case filings, which, at a minimum, shall include: 1) the full names and addresses of the parties to such filings, unless such information is otherwise protected under state or federal law; 2) the cause of action in such filing; and 3) relevant information regarding the court to which the filing has been assigned, as the Legal Services Corporation may prescribe.
D. The provisions of §504 of Public Law 104-134, 110 Stat. 1321, et seq. (1996), and any amendment thereto, shall equally apply to any legal services program receiving funds provided for in this item regarding the expenditure of such funds."
Explanation
(This amendment provides for annual reports regarding cases processed by Legal Services Corporation of Virginia programs, sets certain minium report criteria, and applies the same set of standards for expenditure of state funds as those set for use of federal funds. Such standards include restrictions on lobbying, political activities, class action and abortion-related filings, services to illegal aliens, and related matters.)
