Explanation
(This amendment provides funding to develop a transitional housing court diversion program at Catawba Hospital for seriously mentally ill adults. The program will be used to facilitate the transition of seriously mentally ill persons who have committed nonviolent offenses from jail back into the community through a collaborative treatment team made up of staff from the Blue Ridge Community Services Board and Catawba hospital. An already-existing building on the grounds of Catawba Hospital will be used as the transitional housing unit. The program is estimated to serve 30 individuals per year who are referred from the court system and have a persistent and severe mental illness that has resulted in frequent hospitalizations.)
