Explanation
(This amendment provides $2.0 million in general funds and $2.2 million in nongeneral funds in each year to fund a $.50 increase in the personal care reimbursement rate paid by Medicaid. Personal care services help at-home patients with the tasks of daily living as an alternative to costlier institutional care such as a nursing home. This funding would adds to the $4.0 million in general funds and $4.4 million in nongeneral fund included in the introduced budget over the 2000-2002 biennium. This combined funding would increase personal care rates from $12.50 to $13.50 per hour in Northern Virginia, and from $10.50 to $11.50 per hour in the rest of the state. Language is also added to direct tthe Department of Medical Assistance Services to develop a mechanism for automatic future adjustments to the rate.)
