Budget  “The Department shall establish an agreement with the U.S. Health Care Financing Administration to extend the current three-month enrollment period for enrolling in Medicare Part A coverage through the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program.  The Department shall report to the Chairmen of the Senate Finance Committee, the House Appropriations Committee, and the Joint Commission on Health Care by September 15, 2000 on the status of its actions to establish such an agreement.”

Explanation
(This amendment directs the Department of Medical Assistance Services to establish an agreement with the U.S. Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) to expand the current three-month enrollment period for enrolling in Medicare Part A coverage through the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary program. Extending the enrollment period would provide potential enrollees with a greater opportunity to enroll in the program. Virginia is one of only 12 states that has not established such an agreement with HCFA. This is a recommendation of the Joint Commission on Health Care.)
