Explanation
(This amendment provides additional funding to the Department for the Aging to expand statewide the long-term care ombudsman program, operated at the local level by area agencies on aging. This amendment would complete statewide funding of this program, and provide sufficient funds for each local program to employ one ombudsman for every 2,000 licensed nursing home and adult care residence beds in the community. This level of staffing has been recommended by the Institute of Medicine. This is a recommendation of the Joint Commission on Health Care.)
