Explanation
(This amendment provides funding targeted at students who are at high risk of not advancing their education, especially those students from underrepresented groups. Programs include recruitment of students, year-round academic support services and program assessment, a summer internship program for undergraduates to encourage and prepare them for graduate study, and six postdoctoral positions to attract minority scholars in the sciences with the goal of preparing and attracting them to remain on the permanent faculty. A companion amendment to Item 240 provides additional tuition assistance for minority graduate students.)
