"G.  This appropriation includes $900,000 the first year and $900,000 the second year from the general fund for a pilot Teacher Internship/Provisional Licensure program between Newport News Public Schools and Christopher Newport University.  The school system will hire 30 provisionally licensed teachers and assign them to the classrooms of 30 master teachers.  The provisionally licensed teachers will register at Christopher Newport University for coursework and PRAXIS preparation."


Explanation
(This amendment provides funding to Newport News Public Schools for a master teacher stipend of $5,000 per master teacher, a scholarship to Christopher Newport of $5,000 per intern/provisionally licensed teacher, and salary costs for the intern/provisionally licensed teacher of $20,000 per year.)
