"; therefore, this provision shall satisfy the requirements for the Diversity in Teaching Initiative and Fund, pursuant to House Bills 1404 and 1408 and Senate Bills 630, 652, and 737 of the Acts of Assembly of 2000.  Scholarship recipients may fulfill the teaching obligation by accepting a teaching position (i) in one of the critical teacher shortage disciplines; or (ii) regardless of teaching discipline, in a school with a high concentration of students eligible for free or reduced price lunch; or (iii) at grade levels with a shortage of teachers; or (iv) in a rural or urban region of the state with a teacher shortage.  Scholarship amounts are based on $3,720 per year for full-time students, and shall be prorated for part-time students based on the number of credit hours."

Explanation
(This amendment would increase by at least 50 students each year the number of Virginia students receiving Teaching Scholarship Loans, consistent with the intent behind legislation passed by the 2000 General Assembly. It also allows sophomore students, graduate students, and part-time students to receive scholarship assistance. In addition, the program is expanded to encourage teaching in high poverty areas, and rural or urban areas with teacher shortages, as well as in critical discipline areas.)
