"K.  Out of this appropriation, $200,000 the first year from the general fund shall be provided to the Main Street Program for 1) providing on-site business assistance for best retail practices; 2) sending teams of experts to Main Street Communities to advise on downtown revitalization; and 3) providing grants to downtown organizations for support activities."


Explanation
(This amendment provides $200,000 the first year to support the Department of Housing and Community Development's Main Street Program. Currently, designated communities receive no direct funding and downtown organizations must cover all local program costs. The assistance provided by this funding would help strengthen the downtown business communities and help recruit new businesses to these areas.)
