"H.  Out of the amounts in this Item shall be provided $1,000,000 the second year from the general fund to provide for technology grants to state-certified local visitor centers.  The Virginia Tourism Corporation, in conjunction with the Visitor Service Facility Business Technology Advisory Committee, shall develop recommendations on the use and application of technology software and hardware for local visitor information centers.  These grants shall be used to purchase technology software, hardware, and Internet connections in order to provide for direct links to the Virginia Tourism Corporation web site. The Tourism Corporation shall make a recommendation to the Governor and the Chairmen of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees no later than November 1, 2000, on the allocation and use of these funds."


Explanation
(This amendment removes funds for the establishment of regional visitor centers and directs the Virginia Tourism Corporation, in conjunction with the Visitor Service Facility Business Technology Advisory Committee, to develop recommendations on the use and application of technology software and hardware for local visitor information centers. In addition, this amendment provides $1.0 million in funding for technology grants to the 42 state-certified local visitor centers.)
