Explanation
(This amendment provides continuing matching funds to the Lord Fairfax Planning District Commission for the North Fork Minimum Instream Flow (MIF) Action Plan. The only such MIF project in the Commonwealth, it will determine minimum instream flows that are necessary to sustain the various users of this source for domestic water supplies and assimilation of waste products. The total cost of this study is $820,000 and is being funded by Winchester, Front Royal, Strasburg, Woodstock and Berryville; the Planning District Commission; the Virginia Environmental Endowment; and U.S. Geological Survey funds. This match will provide approximately 24 percent of the total project costs. The end result will be a scientific basis for cooperative surface water management in the region which will serve as a model for Virginia.)
