Explanation
(This amendment provides funding to expand clinical services (psychiatric, psychological, medical and dental) provided by Northern Virginia Training Center to individuals in the community through the Regional Community Support Center. The provision of these services by the Training Center is intended to prevent hospitalizations by providing care to mentally retarded individuals in the community who have documented needs but may be facing long waiting periods for services or who have difficulty accessing needed medical and dental services due to their special needs. Funding is also intended to facilitate discharges of residents to community care. Funding would also support a university affiliation to provide needed medical and dental care, as well as beneficial training and experience for medical and dental professionals to ultimately enhance community services.)
