Explanation
(This amendment provides funds for the continuing education of students who have been suspended or expelled from public school attendance. Due to data limitations regarding the total number of days suspended or expelled by each student and the outdated information which is available, the funding provided is an estimate of the cost necessary to provide these services. Data used in calculating this estimate is from 1993-94, with 112 of 133 school divisions reporting. Using projections forward to the 1998-00 biennium, it is estimated that approximately 95,000 students in 1999 and 96,500 students in 2000 will be suspended or expelled from Virginia public schools. Such figures include suspensions of one or more days.)
