"H.  Out of the amounts in this Item shall be provided $25,000 for the Department to conduct a study on the need for a business information center to serve as a centralized clearinghouse for information needed by business, industry, and new entrepreneurs.  The study shall include, but not be limited to, an analysis of the need, effectiveness, and cost of the services to be provided by a business information center and the costs and services provided by business information centers operated by other states.  Service alternatives and recommendations shall also be included.  The study shall be submitted to the Secretary of Commerce and Trade and to the Chairmen of the Senate Finance and House Appropriations Committees by November 3,1999.".

(This amendment reduces funding and positions for the proposed business information center. The remaining funds of $25,000 are to be used for a study on the need for such a service, alternatives in delivering the service, and the experiences of other states in providing similar programs.)
