From the appropriation in this Item, $62,500 the first year is provided for the estimated increase in the operating costs of adult correctional facilities resulting from enactment of Senate Bill 199, Chapter 518 of the 1998 Regular Session Acts of Assembly, and $8,045,000 the second year for the estimated increase in the operating costs of adult correctional facilities resulting from enactment, in the 1999 Session of the General Assembly, of legislation establishing minimum mandatory sentences for certain offenses related to the possession of firearms and restricting the granting of bail to persons accused of serious offenses. In addition to the latter appropriation, it is intended that $5,752,000 be transferred from the Contract Prisoners Special Revenue Fund on June 30, 2002 to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund to cover the estimated increase in the operating costs of adult correctional facilities resulting from enactment of such legislation. The funds shall be paid into the Corrections Special Reserve Fund, established in accordance with § 30-19.1:4 of the Code of Virginia.
