Page 425, following line 49, insert:
"U.1.  Out of the amounts for Compensation Supplements shall be paid $13,213,407 to implement a career progression plan for Corrections Officers employed by the Department of Corrections.  Of this amount: (a) $12,254,735 shall be used to provide corrections officers a four step (9.3%) increase effective November 25, 1999; and (b) $958,672 shall be used to implement the Corrections Officer Career Progression Plan, effective April 1, 2000.
2. The Corrections Officer Career Progression Plan authorized by this paragraph shall: (a) regrade all corrections officers (grade 7) to Corrections Officer Senior (grade 8) provided they have completed one year or more of service and have successfully completed the required training academy; (b) retain the current
Corrections Officer (grade 7) classification  as the entry level job class pending completion of one year of service and the required training academy; (c) provide for a Corrections Officer Senior (grade 9) for individuals who have served a minimum of three years combined service as a corrections officer and corrections officer senior; and (d)   provide for a Corrections Master Officer (grade 10) for individuals who have served a minimum of two years service as a corrections officer senior.  The Department of Corrections may impose such additional physical, service, knowledge, or performance criteria as it deems appropriate.
3. The Department of Corrections shall provide a detailed implementation plan to the Governor and the Chairmen of the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee by November 15, 1999."
