Page 271, after line 40, insert:
"Z.1. On or before August 1, 1999, the Director of the Department of Medical Assistance Services shall prepare and submit a  request for a waiver to the Health Care Financing Administration, pursuant to federal law and regulation under Title XIX of the Social Security Act, as amended, to provide services to individuals eligible for medical assistance who have a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder as defined in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and would require institutionalization in the absence of home-based services.
2. The waiver request shall include, but not be limited to, a plan to provide the following services:  case management, personal assistance, respite care, adult day care, abuse prevention, personal emergency response systems, environmental modifications, assistive technology, family and care-giver training, residential-based habilitation, day habilitation, pre-vocational services, supported employment services, behavior management and positive behavioral support, transportation, supported living services, speech-language pathology services, physical therapy, and occupational therapy."

(This amendment directs the Department of Medical Assistance Services to seek a Medicaid waiver for coverage of services for persons with autistic disorders.)
