Explanation
(This amendment provides $8,378,358 from the general fund in the second year for the Tuition Assistance Grant program. The amendment increases the non-need-based TAG grant from $2,600 to $3,000 for about 14,600 Virginia undergraduate, graduate and professional students attending Virginia's independent colleges and universities. The budget bill, as introduced, assumes about 13,600 students and gives priority to returning students and to students applying by July 31. The amendment would provide the full TAG grant to all eligible students in fiscal year 2000.)
