"Z.  The State Plan for Medical Assistance Services shall be amended to include coverage for high-dose chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants for individuals over the age of 21 who have been diagnosed with leukemia.  The individual must have a performance status sufficient to proceed with the high-dose chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant.  Effective July 1, 1999, the Board of Medical Assistance Services shall promulgate emergency regulations to implement this expanded coverage."


Explanation
(This amendment expands Medicaid coverage of high dose chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants for individuals diagnosed with leukemia. Current law requires Medicaid to pay for this treatment for Medicaid recipients over the age of 21 who have lymphoma and breast cancer.)
