"WWWW. The Department of Medical Assistance Services shall conduct a study to identify regulatory and administrative barriers and the fiscal impact of permitting medication therapy management (MTM), provided in-person or via telehealth, to the list of services directly billable by pharmacists as providers. The department shall provide a report of their findings and recommended guidelines by October 1, 2025, to the Joint Commission on Health Care."

Explanation

(This amendment directs the Department of Medical Assistance Services to conduct a study to identify regulatory and administrative barriers and the fiscal impact of permitting medication therapy management (MTM), provided in-person or via telehealth, to the list of services directly billable by pharmacists as providers and provide a report of their findings and recommended guidelines by October 1, 2025 to the Joint Commission on Health Care (JCHC). The amendment is based upon findings from the 2023 JCHC report on Team-based Care Approaches to Improve Health Outcomes, including that team-based practice teams that include a pharmacist improve the likelihood that patients appropriately take their medications and receive more timely adjustment to their medications compared to traditional primary care, and stakeholders report that a lack of insurance reimbursement for medication therapy management delivered via telehealth limits availability of pharmacist-provided services. This is an amendment from the Joint Commission on Health Care.)
