Explanation

(This amendment provides $4.0 million each year from the general fund for Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP), which is Virginia’s own home visiting program, providing services to families for over 30 years through six regional programs serving 28 communities in Virginia. The Commonwealth has supported CHIP through federal and state funds for over 20 years. CHIP uses an evidence-informed framework for its model, and is a promising practice with strong outcomes in family well-being and self-sufficiency as well as maternal and child health. This investment will conduct the most rigorous research methodologies to take the proof of CHIP’s effectiveness to the next level of eligibility for federal funding sources.)
