"J. Out of this appropriation, $100,000 the first year and $100,000 the second year from the general fund shall be provided to the Virginia POLST (Portable Medical Orders) Collaborative for the design and development of programs in communities across Virginia."

Explanation

(This amendment adds $100,000 each year from the general fund for the Virginia POLST (Portable Medical Orders) Collaborative for the operation of this training program throughout Virginia. POLST is a portable medical order set that aims to enable seriously ill patients to designate the treatments they want and to ensure that those preferences are honored by medical professionals. POLST Collaboratives, including the Virginia POLST Collaborative, are generally a part of the National POLST Collaborative and are intended to educate doctors and allied health care professionals throughout a state regarding POLST. In many states, this program is state-funded as it trains health care professionals and monitors POLST usage statewide. However, the cost of Virginia’s program has been borne exclusively for many years by a not-for-profit hospice care organization Capital Caring Health.)
