Explanation

(This amendment provides $124.2 million GF the first year and $74.1 million GF the second year, representing the first biennial installment of the VCCS’s plan to address regional workforce needs for in-demand jobs in high-demand industry sectors. Funding will prepare, upskill, and reskill Virginians and expand upward mobility opportunities, providing Virginia’s industries with the workers they need. The 23 community colleges are closely collaborating along GO Virginia regional lines to better address economic development and workforce needs. This request reflects an intentional, strategic alignment between business and industry in each region. The convergence will allow for accelerated training and credentialing while placing more students directly into open jobs with family-sustaining wages. The requested investment will produce nearly 20,000 more credentialed workers for the workforce talent pipeline in high-demand sectors aligned with 9 GO Virginia regions. The funding request is already supported by $21.7 million in industry investment and will be matched with a $24.6 million future industry investment and $10.6 million of redirected existing college resources.)
