The Department of Criminal Justice Services shall seek the maximum grant award available from the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program authorized by the U.S. Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and shall use such grant award(s) to establish a grant program no later than June 30th, 2024 to promote and train state and local law enforcement and Commonwealth's Attorneys to implement and enforce § 19.2-152.13, Code of Virginia."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $5.1 million NGF the second year as a placeholder amount and directs the Department of Criminal Justice Services to seek the maximum grant award possible for the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program authorized by the federal Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and to use such grant awards to establish a grant program no later than June 30th, 2024 to promote and train state and local law enforcement and Commonwealth's Attorneys to implement and enforce § 19.2-152.13, Code of Virginia, related to substantial risk orders or "red flag" laws.)
