Explanation

(This amendment provides $9.3 million each year from the general fund pursuant to House Bill 893, which increases the cap on compensation paid to court-appointed counsel for parents in child dependence cases. Specifically, it increases the compensation from $120 per case, to the maximum amount of compensation allowed for court-appointed criminal defense in cases involving felonies, depending on the case, either $445 or $1,235 per case. This bill effectuates a recommendation of a 2023 workgroup studying legal representation in child dependency cases. This amendment is a placeholder until a fiscal impact statement for the bill is produced.)
