"WWWW. Effective July 1, 2024 the Department of Medical Assistance Services shall have the authority to amend the State Plan for Medical Assistance to cover adult pancreas transplantation."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $114,991 the first year and $115,132 the second year from the general fund and $824,670 the first year and $824,529 the second year from nongeneral funds to expand Medicaid to cover adult pancreas transplantation beginning in fiscal year 2025. While Medicaid currently covers kidney transplantation for all eligible patients, it does not cover pancreas transplantation. Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney transplantation (SPK) is one of the most effective treatments for patients with insulin-dependent diabetes and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Since Medicaid does not adult pancreas transplantation, Medicaid patients who are recommended for a SPK transplant must forego the procedure. This would allow the program to cover an estimated 13 patients statewide annually on the organ waitlist. Language provides DMAS with the authority to amend the State Plan for Medical Assistance to effect this change.)
