"WWWW.1. Effective July 1, 2024, the Department of Medical Assistance Services shall increase the rates for primary care physicians, pediatricians and psychiatrists by five percent or to 80 percent of the equivalent Medicare rate, whichever is higher.

2.  The  Department of Medical Assistance Services department shall have the authority to establish an annual inflation adjustment for physician reimbursement rates that shall be used to updated physician rates in the year following the rate increase provided in paragraph WWWW.1.  The department shall implement these changes prior to completion of any regulatory process undertaken in order to effect such change."



Explanation

(This amendment provides $21.5 million from the general fund and $45.0 million from nongeneral funds the first year and $28.2 million from the general fund and $45.0 million from nongeneral funds the second year to increase Medicaid reimbursement rates for services provided by primary care physicians, pediatricians and psychiatrists by five percent care or 80 percent of the Medicare rate for equivalent services, whichever is higher. Language also requires the agency to establish an annual inflation adjustment for Medicaid services provided by a physician which shall be used to update the rates in the following year. Language provides the agency with the authority to implement emergency regulations to effect such changes.)
