"P. The Department of Corrections shall establish and publicly post on its website and in the lobby of each prison, an objective dress code for prison visitors. This dress code may contain only: (i) limitations on colors or materials of attire, nail polish, or makeup; (ii) specific, measurable limitations on clothing; (iii) requirements that certain body parts be covered; and (iv) prohibitions on specific types of jewelry, makeup, or shoes. There shall be no prohibition on underwire bras.

No prison may enforce a dress code that is more restrictive than that posted by the Department of Corrections. The posted dress code shall include any and all limitations on the appearance or attire of a visitor, including but not limited to, limitations relating to attire, undergarments, shoes, nail polish, makeup, jewelry, or hair. No one shall be denied in-person visitation on the basis of their attire or appearance unless in clear violation of the posted dress code. Any denials of visitation based on appearance or attire shall be reviewed and approved by at least one supervisor before the visitor is turned away on this basis."



Explanation

(This amendment directs the Department of Corrections to establish and publicly post on its website and in the lobby of each prison an objective dress code for prison visitors. The dress code may contain only: limitations on colors or materials of attire, nail polish, or makeup; specific, measurable limitations on clothing; requirements that certain body parts be covered; and prohibitions on specific types of jewelry, makeup, or shoes. The amendment also does not allow a prohibition on underwire bras. $100,000 GF the second year is provided for consulting and technical assistance to implement the directive.)
