Beginning in the second year, candidates pursuing certification may apply to the Department of Education for grants from these funds (i) to cover the registration costs for candidates pursuing initial certification, with half of the registration fee reimbursable upon initial registration, and the remaining half reimbursable upon successful achievement of certification, and (ii) to cover maintenance of certification and registration costs, reimbursable upon successful completion of the certificate extension."

(This amendment provides $8.9 million GF the second year to increase the National Board Certification Incentive bonus to $7,500 every year for the award to teachers. The current bonus is $2,500. This accompanies Senate Bill 1260.)
