Explanation

(This amendment provides an additional $1.0 million the second year from the general fund to increase the salaries of the assistant chief medical examiners and other support staff in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The introduced budget included $1.5 million from the general fund for these salary adjustments, half of the agency's original request for consideration in the Governor's budget. This amendment restores part of that unfunded request to reconcile the critical shortage of medical examiners in the Commonwealth. Based on recent information from the Virginia Department of Health, only 11 of the 19 medical examiners are filled.)
