The Department of Medical Assistance Services shall execute a 1634 Agreement with the Social Security Administration that provides automatic Medicaid eligibility for Supplemental Security Income recipients. The department shall have the authority to promulgate emergency regulations to implement these amendments within 280 days or less from the enactment of this act or upon execution of a 1634 agreement with the Social Security Administration and receipt of Federal authority."

Explanation

(This amendment provides $125,000 from the general fund and $375,000 from nongeneral funds for the Department of Medical Assistance Services for system changes that will allow all Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients to automatically enroll in Medicaid beginning in fiscal year 2025. Currently, the Medicaid program uses a Medicaid eligibility standard as outlined in Section 209(b) of the Social Security Act, applying more restrictive criteria to evaluate SSI recipients for Medicaid. The amendment directs DMAS to execute a 1634 agreement with the Social Security Administration to provide automatic Medicaid eligibility for SSI recipients.)
