Explanation

(This amendment adds $10.0 million the second year from the general fund for the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute to expand its proton cancer therapy service capacity, research, and outreach. Further, it will allow the Institute to provide precision medicine via proton therapy while growing the delivery of innovative MRI, AI, imaging tools and advanced technologies, especially to underserved and rural communities throughout Virginia. From a potentially powerful economic development point, this project will be positioned to become a medical technology transfer hub in the Hampton Roads region. This will encourage America's leading radio pharmaceuticals/therapy companies to create private public partnerships with Hampton University by leveraging these advantages in development of new innovative health businesses in Virginia.)
