"Z. Out of this appropriation, $900,000 from the general fund the second year shall be provided to the Amyotrophic Lateral Schlerosis (ALS) Association for services to individuals living with ALS and their families."

(This amendment adds $900,000 from the general fund the second year for the ALS Association for services to individuals with ALS and their families. ALS is a fatal, progressive, neurodegenerative disease with no known cure or effective treatment options. Out-of-pocket costs of care for a person living with ALS can exceed $250,000 per year, which often leads to medical bankruptcy or the depletion of life long savings and/or retirement income. Often individuals with ALS or a family member may have to leave their job and lose their salary and employer sponsored health insurance due to the disease progression or provide needed care,)
