Explanation

(This amendment adds $900,000 from the general fund the second year for the ALS Association for services to individuals with ALS and their families. ALS is a fatal, progressive, neurodegenerative disease with no known cure or effective treatment options. Out-of-pocket costs of care for a person living with ALS can exceed $250,000 per year, which often leads to medical bankruptcy or the depletion of life long savings and/or retirement income. Often individuals with ALS or a family member may have to leave their job and lose their salary and employer sponsored health insurance due to the disease progression or provide needed care,)
