Explanation

(This amendment provides $8.3 million the second year from the general fund to (i) increase the amount of the per-teacher bonus for National Board certified teachers to $7,500 per year, as proposed in House Bill 1424. Currently, the bonus is $5,000 for the first year of certification and $2,500 thereafter. This amendment also establishes a reimbursable grant program to cover the registration costs for initial application and renewal of the certificate.)
