Explanation
(This amendment adds $1.4 million GF and $2.1 million NGF each year to restore funding provided to local Departments of Social Services (DSS). Funding will assist local agencies in addressing existing caseload requirements for public assistance programs. Funding for local DSS operations was reduced by $5.8 million in FY 2011. Last year, $2.9 million GF each year was provided to offset the previous reduction by 50 percent. This amendment restores an additional $1.4 million for local DSS operations. Even with the restoration, local DSS offices are facing the loss of $3.5 million in temporary federal assistance provided through the Department of Defense to address rising food stamp caseloads.)
