Explanation
(This amendment assumes Medicaid savings by making changes to the preferred drug list program. This amendment removes exclusions for medications used in the treatment of serious mental illnesses, brain disorders, cancer or HIV-related conditions. Under current law, prescription drugs used in the treatment of these illnesses are exempt from the preferred drug list program. This amendment applies the same principles for receiving prescription drugs under Medicaid's preferred drug list to non-Medicaid recipients by requiring that a generic drug be dispensed for a brand-name equivalent if it is chemically the same.)
