"3. Included in this appropriation is $4,893,490 the first year and $2,951,760 the second year from the general fund and 35 new State Trooper positions to enhance highway patrol services on Virginia's interstate highways.
4.  The Department of State Police shall conduct a study of State Trooper salaries and benefits, including a comparison of Virginia State Police salaries and benefits with state and local law enforcement salaries in Virginia and contiguous states.  Copies of the report shall be provided to the Chairmen of the Senate Finance and House Appropriations Committees by October 1, 2008."


Explanation
(This amendment provides $3,495,350 the first year and $2,108,400 the second year and 25 State Trooper positions from the general fund to enhance highway patrol services on Virginia's interstate highways. When added to the ten new positions included within the introduced budget, a total of 35 new State Troopers will be provided for increased highway patrol. This amendment also requires the department to conduct a study of State Trooper salaries and benefits.)
