"K. Included in the amounts appropriated in this Item are $7,500,000 the first year and $7,500,000 the second year from the general fund for grants to support ten projects in Virginia, based on the Sequential Intercept Model, to divert individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders from jails at each possible intersection with the criminal justice system.  The projects to be funded will be selected on a competitive basis jointly by the Departments of Criminal Justice Services and the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services.  A report on the selection process, including the selection criteria and the initial project grant awards, shall be provided to the Chairmen of the Senate Finance and House Appropriations Committees by July 1, 2008."

(This amendment provides $7,500,000 each year from the general fund for diversion of persons with serious mental illness from jails.)
