Explanation
(This amendment provides language and funding for the ongoing implementation, support, and maintenance of the SAVIN victim notification system in all of Virginia's local and regional jails, thereby providing potentially lifesaving information and notification to victims of crimes regarding the status of their offenders' continued incarceration, escape, or pending release. During the past biennium, the Virginia Sheriffs' Association secured $1.75 million in grants to implement the interface installation, training, and program coordination with Virginia's local and regional jail facilities. These implementation, training, and program coordination activities were provided by the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation. The amendment supports the continued maintenance between SAVIN and local and regional jails as well as linking SAVIN to Virginia's sex offender registry.)
