Explanation
(This amendment provides $250,000 the first year from the general fund to the James Monroe Memorial Foundation. The requested funds would be used for the reconstruction of the birthplace of our fifth President James Monroe at Monroe Hall in Westmoreland County and for part of the James Monroe Trail, a walking and biking path on the Monroe property. Archaeology studies, documentation and research are underway by The Center for Archaeological Research and The College of William & Mary and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Reconstruction of the house will be by a contractor to be determined. The reconstruction will complement the development of the historic site and commemorate Monroe's 250th birthday in 2008.)
