"B. Out of the amounts appropriated for Law Enforcement Training and Education Assistance, $500,000 the first year and $500,000 the second year from the general fund is provided to establish a contract with the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation to provide statewide law enforcement and community training consistent with the recommendations of the Virginia State Crime Commission Illegal Immigration Task Force and to maintain law enforcement training programs as requested by Virginia's law enforcement leaders."
Explanation
(This amendment provides $500,000 each year from the general fund to support the training recommendations of the Virginia State Crime Commission Illegal Immigration Task Force. These recommendations include: bridging the language barrier between law enforcement and immigrant communities on laws, regulations, and safety; building relationships between law enforcement and immigrant communities; and training jail and prison personnel on the detection and processing of illegal immigrants entering Virginia's criminal justice system. The Virginia Center for Policing Innovation would use this funding to deliver no-cost training to law enforcement and community members on these topics.)
