Explanation
(This amendment provides $3.4 million GF each year to support the consistent 8 percent annual growth in the number of referrals to early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities from birth through age two. Such services, provided very early in the life of a child with a developmental disability, help families create a nurturing environment and avoid or ameliorate future health care and education costs. Services include assessment, parent education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and additional rehabilitative services. Studies by some Community Services Boards demonstrate that 25-35 percent of infants and toddlers who receive these services do not need special education. This funding will serve 1,296 additional infants and toddlers.)
