Explanation
(This amendment provides $4.8 million each year from the general fund for a rental assistance pilot project that would be created under the Department of Housing and Community Development pursuant to House Bill 289. The purpose of the pilot project is to temporarily fill the gap between family income and the cost of housing for very low income working families, with priority given to TANF recipients and working families and individuals living in shelters, giving them the stability necessary to transition to work-based economic independence. The project includes the requirement for biannual reports from the participating localities in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the program, as well as a final report to the Governor and the Housing Commission on the effectiveness of the pilot project.)
