"2.  Included in the amounts for this Item is $250,000 the second year from the general fund to accurately assess the potential for passenger rail to serve the transportation needs of communities in the Route 29 Corridor between Lynchburg and Washington, D.C.  The study shall be done by the research center at the University of Virginia, and shall survey residents in the Corridor from Lynchburg to Waynesboro, Staunton, and Orange; provide revised estimates of potential revenue and subsidies needed based on ridership projections; review and reconcile disparate estimates of the capital costs to provide service; and identify potential operators for direct intercity service between stations in the corridor."

(This amendment provides $250,000 GF to determine public interest in passenger rail service in the Route 29 Corridor, capital costs, and operating subsidies. The University of Virginia would do the study.)
