"J. Out of this appropriation, $2,000,000 the second year from the general fund shall be allocated for the creation of a Jamestown Island Education Initiative from which the Department of Education shall make grants to private non-profit organizations to match federal government and other monies on a 2 for 1 basis for educational activities related to the preservation, restoration, or archaeological excavation of any historic sites located on the island.  Such educational activities shall include, but not be limited to educational and interpretive services at the Fort site and the Archaearium exhibits, including:  electronic access to the daily findings, artifacts, and new knowledge through the website and virtual Jamestowne resources; on site tours; lecture series; publications and documentaries, teacher institutes and training workshops; Field School with the University of Virginia and William and Mary; school group tours and classroom resources (lesson plans and web-based activities, based on the Standards of Learning); and the integration of SOLs across the curriculum."

(This amendment provides $2.0 million for a new Jamestown Island Education grant program to be administered by the Department of Education.)
