"S.  Included in this appropriation is $240,000 the second year from the general fund for the Compensation Board to contract for services to be provided by the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation (VCPI) to provide training to Virginia sheriffs and deputies in the areas of Court Security Protective Intelligence, Judicial Threat Management, Court Facility and Security Assessments, and High Security/High Profile Trial and Event Planning.  VCPI shall submit to the Compensation Board a project budget and obtain approval of the same, prior to commencement of the agency's work."

Explanation
(This amendment provides funding for advanced training for law enforcement deputies responsible for courtroom security through the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation (VCPI). Nearly 25,000 Virginia law enforcement officers have attended nearly 900 training courses provided by VCPI. Currently, 12 courses are provided in subjects such as Court Security Protective Intelligence, Judicial Threat Management, Court Facility and Security Assessments, and High Security/High Profile Trial and Event Planning. Currently, law enforcement deputies receive basic training in courtroom security, but advanced training would provide a much better level of security for Virginia's courthouses and those serving the judicial system. This request represents an expressed need reported by the Virginia Sheriffs Association and Virginia's court system.)
