Explanation
(This amendment includes $200,000 general fund in the second year for the Center of Innovative Technology to work with the Hampton Roads Technology Council and the higher education institutions located in Hampton Roads to conduct a feasibility study of establishing a National Center for the Sensor Sciences within the Hampton Roads area. The national center could serve in the following capacities: 1.) as a facilitator of research partnerships between government, academia and industry; 2.) as a collaborator for research and development of the newly emerging technologies; 3.) as the head of a consortium of sensor science equipment and materials suppliers, 4.) as an expediter for the transfer and commercialization of new sensor science technologies into the marketplace and other areas of applied research, such as nanotechnology, biotechnology and modeling & simulation; and 5.) as an advocate for establishing standards for productivity.)
