Explanation
(This amendment provides $25,000 the second year from the general fund for Belle Grove Plantation for the development of a Master Site Plan for the plantation's 283 acres that are linked to the National Park partner properties and the development of a Historic Structures Report for Harmony Hall. Belle Grove Plantation is a unique limestone mansion which was originally built in 1797 by Major Isaac Hite, Jr., a prominent Revolutionary War veteran, and his wife, Nelly Conway Madison, the sister of James Madison. Listed on both the National and Virginia Registers of Historic Landmarks, the 283-acre plantation serves as the centerpiece and main visitor center of the new "Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park." This national historical park is already bringing thousands of new travelers into the Shenandoah Valley region.)
